History Of The Garment
The origins of the shift dress lie in the 1920s when the short, usually sleeveless, shapeless and simplified dress allowed women to “shift” around, whether in terms of work, sports or dancing.
In the 70s, polyester had declined and sales fell sharply. However, in the 1980s, a group of designers including names such as Calvin Klein decided to help create a line of products made of polyester and this helped bring polyester back into fashion.
